So when a friend called and asked if we wanted some fresh salmon, of course we said yes.  What we didn’t expect was this:

A whole fish.  Nearly three feet long.  I tackled this fish with gusto… but struggled with my footing accordingly. The first side was a mess, but the second side I did much better.  I DO know how to fillet a fish, but the only fish I’ve ever filleted were about the size of Andy’s hand.  Pan-fish, not big honking caught in a large body of water fish.  I ended up with one nice size fillet that will be plenty for our family one night, and a whole mess of chunks.  So I’m looking for a killer salmon chowder recipe.  Lightness not necessary- just fantastic and delicious.

Chef Ramsey would have dismissed me most certainly from his kitchen, sadly, since my hands were full of fish and scales and such, I did not get any pictures of the process.  You’ll have to use your imagination.

  1. Lol, Laura, it was pretty funny. I think I found a chowder recipe on Epicurious to use, it has raving reviews, so when we’re in the mood for something new…

  2. My Husband would have been all over that! Of course, he hasn’t tried to filet a fish that big either, but I think he’d be up for the challenge… me – not so much! 😉

  3. DTW, at least it had the guts and the bloodline removed. I don’t know that I could have done that.

That’s funny Patsy, because my hubby backed away from the fish and happily told me it was all mine. Lol.
