So when a friend called and asked if we wanted some fresh salmon, of course we said yes. What we didn’t expect was this:
A whole fish. Nearly three feet long. I tackled this fish with gusto… but struggled with my footing accordingly. The first side was a mess, but the second side I did much better. I DO know how to fillet a fish, but the only fish I’ve ever filleted were about the size of Andy’s hand. Pan-fish, not big honking caught in a large body of water fish. I ended up with one nice size fillet that will be plenty for our family one night, and a whole mess of chunks. So I’m looking for a killer salmon chowder recipe. Lightness not necessary- just fantastic and delicious.
Chef Ramsey would have dismissed me most certainly from his kitchen, sadly, since my hands were full of fish and scales and such, I did not get any pictures of the process. You’ll have to use your imagination.
That is REALLY funny!
Oooops, sorry I should add I don’t eat fish or chowder, so I cannot help you there.
Lol, Laura, it was pretty funny. I think I found a chowder recipe on Epicurious to use, it has raving reviews, so when we’re in the mood for something new…
LOL – he would have kicked both of us out – lol. I’m glad you were able to handle it!
My Husband would have been all over that! Of course, he hasn’t tried to filet a fish that big either, but I think he’d be up for the challenge… me – not so much! 😉
DTW, at least it had the guts and the bloodline removed. I don’t know that I could have done that.
That’s funny Patsy, because my hubby backed away from the fish and happily told me it was all mine. Lol.
