I don’t have a food post today… I have been cooking a few standbys, but I do have something in mind for tomorrow, so stay tuned. In the meantime though, for those of you checking in here who are near to me, I’m thrilled with this recent development! Woodman’s markets in Wisconsin now have reusable bags available! They are available at the store for 4 for $3.00, and they’re really quite sturdy. I bought four the last time I was in, and I was amazed with how much could be packed in them! The handles are comfortable, and while they say do not put in the dryer, I imagine if something spilled on them they could be washed and hung up to dry. I figure the next shopping trip I’ll pick up four more, and then I’ll be set for grocery shopping. It would be really nice to not come home every time with a mountain of plastic bags that need to be disposed of. It took nothing to unpack my groceries and then pop the bags back into my van for the next shopping trip. I’m very excited to see this development in my neck of the woods.
when i was home, i noticed the same thing at festival foods. they had reusable grocery bags (very sturdy, and fold up very nicely) for $2 each. i almost bought some to use at the grocery store here…i’m glad more places are becoming “trash-conscious”. =)
I figured we would be the last place in the country to jump on the reusable bag bandwagon. 🙂 Although now I’m kinda annoyed I spent $12 on one reusable bag about a year ago.
I totally agree that the bags are able to hold more and without the hassle of having all those annoying plastic bags. I have been picking them up from my Publix, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s and I really like using them more than I like the plastic or even the paper bags. They are not that expensive and totally worth the .99 I have paid for mine.
They are great anonymous! They make great everyday tote bags too for carrying around miscellaneous whatever.
I love my reusable bags, too. I got mine at Costco, at just under $1 each. They aren’t as tall, but are wider and deeper, and even have sleeves on the inside to hold tall bottles. Of course, it bums me out when I leave Whole Foods $150 poorer, and it’s all in four bags, but I remind myself that it’s the equivalent of 10 or 12 plastic or paper bags. Now, if I could just remember to take them in to Target, Costco, etc. For some reason, I only think of them at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods!
Michelle the sleeves inside sound really nice! I saw some narrower and taller bags available in the beverage mart here, so I may have to pick some of those up too for the occasional bottle of wine.
The store where I shop most often(a Kroger owned store)has a reusable wine bag that holds six bottles. You are supposed to get it free when you buy six bottles, but they gave it to me when I bought three before Christmas.
Just remember to put them in your car! It’s nothing if they are in my car and I have to run back out to the parking lot to get them, but sometimes I have the best of intentions to run them back out after unloading, I forget, and then I don’t have them the next time.
