I have a few things I’m working on for the week ahead. One of which is a stuffing which I made yesterday completely impromptu, and it turned out amazing! I’m also in the mood for a cake this week, so I’ve got a new one up my sleeve to try. Maybe a pie in the works, and also a few vegetables. I hope to have a busy week here at Tummy Treasure, so stop back often, as you may even find a bonus post on a few days!
But to start of this Monday morning, I thought I’d share with you my current obsession. I had made my Spiced Pumpkin Waffles one day last week, and the leftovers have been sitting in the fridge waiting to be eaten. They just got tossed around, and then as I was cleaning out the fridge I found a portion of a package of cream cheese. Don’t ask me where the idea came from, but since it was lunch time, I pulled out those waffles, the cream cheese, and then decided on some homemade pear butter. I popped two waffles into the toaster to warm up, and I swear I began drooling at the prospect to come.
When those waffles were toasty and refreshed I sliced off a generous knob of cream cheese and smeared a layer on one of the waffles. Then I smeared a generous helping of pear butter on the other waffle. I pressed the two together and had an instant waffle sandwich. It was fantastic! I enjoyed every bite, and then debated making another one, even though I really didn’t need it. And now, the mind is reeling from the possibilities with this. I’m normally a bit of a sweet waffle person, but I have a mind full of savory waffles stuffed with sandwich toppings. The beauty of using a waffle is that it is crispy. It’s like using a sturdy piece of toast, only the toast adds flavor to the sandwich, and because the waffle has all these little squares on it, it holds a topping perfectly.
It’s definitely time to thing outside the box with waffles. Both literally and proverbially. Have you ever done anything out of the norm with a waffle? I’d love to hear it!
Sounds delicious. I don’t know if I’ve ever done out of the ordinary stuff with waffles… besides throwing chocolate chips into the waffle iron once in a while, and the fact that I like to eat my waffle with a fried egg and syrup on top 🙂
