I think we’re finally arriving. As the summer days have suddenly cooled off, the produce is suddenly rolling in. This past Friday, I actually was able to make our first batch of salsa for the year. The most incredible part of that? I needed to buy onions and cilantro. Every other ingredient came from my own garden. It’s been years since I’ve been able to say that. Last year I had to buy tomatoes, onions and cilantro, the year before I had to buy everything. To be able to walk out to the garden and harvest the tomatoes, hot peppers, garlic and bell peppers was wonderful. Next year I’m going to work on those onions in the garden.
But in the meantime, we’re enjoying the bounty. We’ve already enjoyed the first BLT’s, the first fresh tomato soup, and homemade salsa. Coming soon- tomorrow, I think- will be Ratatouille. I love summer, and while I don’t really have a recipe to share at this precise moment, I thought I’d hop on and say that. And share a picture or two of what I’ve been harvesting.
